Super design love

April 10, 2015

Valentines day... a day celebrating love and passion. For a designer,
what better way to spend it than within a community brought together by the love of graphic design, print, illustration and all things creative. Supergraph Contemporary Art Fair delivers just this. Held in Melbourne’s beautiful Royal Exhibition Building over three days, there is no shortage of design talent, passion and inspiration.

What brings this fair to life is all the ways you can get interactive. Melbourne’s New School Old School presented a masterclass introducing the art of blackletter, and shortly after Kitiya Palaskas gave everyone the opportunity to get crafty with making felt pennants. 10 giant cardboard letter tables that spell SUPERGRAPH make up a large communal drawing area, The Hungry Workshop let you try your hands at letterpress, and a cardboard runway became the grounds for the ultimate paper plane throwing competition. Every activity gave kids and adults, designers and non-designers a chance to get creative and just have fun with design.

If you can take anything away from Supergraph, it’s how uniquely design can engage, connect and communicate to everyone. If that’s not something about design to fall in love with, I don’t know what is.
