Francesc Macià 10

Reimagining a modernist masterpiece

Barcelona is no stranger to fearless architecture. In 2012, Winkreative was invited to bring a new modernist story to life – that of Francesc Macià 10, a Swiss-designed mid-century icon. From finding the right architect to creating an identity that attracts new residents, we worked across every part of the building’s rebirth.

Developer Squircle Capital first needed to find an architect with a compelling vision to remodel the building’s interior, and we helped them select renowned Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan. The architect’s ideas – as well as his characteristic focus on the interplay between light and material – were integral to our approach to creating the Francesc Macià 10 brand identity.

A former filmmaker, Kogan was drawn to the panoramic, film-like view of Barcelona that the curvature of the building offered. This, along with the arch-shaped lattices on the building’s façade, became the inspiration for our identity, reflecting the coherence and precision of Kogan’s work.

Once we’d created the identity we then produced a range of in-depth marketing materials, with commissioned photography that captures Kogan’s impeccable attention to detail, use of materials and the sense of life he created inside the building. This included two books – a brochure that tells the story of Francesc Macià 10 in full and a buyer’s guide – and a series of films that connects the design of the development to the energy of Barcelona. We also considered the experience for buyers after purchase, designing a felt-lined, handcrafted wooden box holding the key to the building, to be given to each new homeowner. The fully realised project was revealed through a website that offers a glimpse into all aspects of life at Francesc Macià 10, including neighbourhood highlights and its exclusive residential amenities.

The story in depth

The brochure was an opportunity to tell the story of Francesc Macià 10 in full, including a section dedicated to the core materials used throughout the building. We also created a ‘buyer’s guide’ to go hand-in-hand with the brochure, as a more functional information piece for the prospective resident.

The distinct connection between the energy of Barcelona and the building was a catalyst for the entire brand.
